I had the very disconcernting experience of selling some of my books to a kid who I could be the father of -- for a sizeable discount because my goal is to have the damn things READ instead of slabbed. When I mentioned that I had comics on microfiche the reaction was hilarious. It was as if I had announced that I was going back to the scriptorium to illuminate a breviary. I FEEL OLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLD. IP: Logged |

Shucks, Bgztl, save me a spot in that club! Although I'm -ahem- only a kid at age 48, I'm now teacher children...OF MY FORMER STUDENTS! Argh!@#? Best... IP: Logged |

Welcome to the club, keeds. I used to think of people who didn't remember Jack Kennedy as being really young. Then it was Bobby and Martin Luther King. Then Nixon. Now there are adults walking around out there who barely remember Ronald Reagan as President, let alone the shock of his going from being a joke to being President in the first place. Before you know it, it'll be Clinton. IP: Logged |

I think "microfiche" is what was so funny to him, not the fact that you READ the comics on microfiche. If you'd said that you have old comics on dvd-rom, he'd have said "cool." IP: Logged |

quote: So I gathered. Ironic really. Libraries still use microfiche and microfilm extensively. It will probably be around for another half century at least. IP: Logged |
